January Lanyard [mini] Challenge

Hey Quilters!

Just a quick reminder that we challenged y'all to make a lanyard in time for our January guild meeting (3rd Saturday at Corn Wagon).

Here is the tutorial that Marion used.  (You may use any method you like :)).

(Marion liked the tutorial but recommends making the lanyard a little wider)

We passed out lanyard hardware in November.  If you were absent and need one, please text Marion and arrange to pick one up from her :)

Simple Fun & Easy Holiday Gifts Links

Quilted Coasters, Natalie Smith

  1. Make patchwork as desired. Quilt using just patchwork and batting. Trim patchwork to 5 ½" square.
  2. Trim another piece of fabric to 5 ½" square for backing.
  3. Place backing fabric on top of patchwork, right sides together. Sew around perimeter, using a ¼" seam allowance and leaving a               3" opening on one side.
  4. Trim corners and turn, then press well and top stitch around, making sure to enclose opening.

A Change in Venue

We have been so lucky to be wholeheartedly supported by Gracie Lou's Quilt Shoppe over the past (nearly) two years! They have stood by us from the very beginning and we couldn't have made our guild work with out them! It is with a very heavy heart, that we have found ourselves in a position to need to find a new location for our guild to meet. We simply have out grown the space that Gracie Lou's has for us. Of course, we must continue to support their darling shop as much as we possibly can! We love you, Gracie Lou's!

Growing pains can be hard, but thankfully we have been offered another fantastic place to meet. The Corn Wagon Quilt Co., in Springville has graciously offered to host our guild meetings starting October 17th. To better fit in with their class schedules, we will be permanently changing our meeting day to the third Saturday of each month at 10 am. The Corn Wagon Quilt Co. address is 303 E 400 S, Springville, Utah.

We look forward to the fun times we will have there!

NMQG Scrappy Challenge

We are SO excited to announce our next Guild Challenge!!!

SCRAP-MANIA!!!

#NMQGuildSCRAPPYchallenge!

That's right quilters!  We want you to make an AWESOME-alicious scrappy quilt!!

Definition of Scrap- a left over piece of fabric from another project. (Also, leftovers from other quilters bequeathed (or sold) to you counts as "scraps")  *you may buy a solid/neutral to tie your quilt together.  See Marion's examples below.

While "scrappy" has become a term to describe a quilt with TONS of color and/or fabric variety, for our NMQG Scrappy Challenge, we are wanting you to dig into your SCRAPS and use them up to make a work of quilty-goodness!

Each month (July, August and September) we will have different guild members share their take on the Scrap-Tastic quilts in their life!  What they make with their scraps
and how they sort and store them.

The challenge will end at our October meeting.  We will have a drawing for those who have COMPLETELY finished a scrappy quilt project.  (Remember, pillows and mini quilts count ;-))

For July's meeting, Marion introduced the challenge and showed us
several examples of scrappy quilts she had done.

Below Marion has posted pictures of her scrappy quilts with a link to her blog posts about the quilts.  Links to tutorials/patterns are in her posts.  If you have a comment or question about a specific quilt, please leave a comment (or question) directly on her blog post that
you have a question (or comment) about :)

March Meeting and HMQS

Hello Ladies! Can you believe it's time to meet again?

This Saturday at 10:30. We are having the awesome Amber Johnson of GiGi's Thimble come and inspire us. Her blog is alittlebitbiased.blogspot.com
She is the author of many patterns and a book called Vintage Vibe.
My New Book!
Remember your pincushion, wrapped like a present, if you want to swap!
We will also, as always be having "sew & tell"and tip & tricks.

It is also time to organize the quilts we will be showing at the HMQS show. I need to gather info on all the quilts we are showing. Please email me the info or print out the attachment and bring it to guild, you must fill out one sheet for each quilt you are submitting. Please attach a photo of the quilt, if possible. Remember they have asked us for a modern-type show, please include your Solids Challenge Entry and any other quilts you think qualify. If you need help deciding whether to submit a quilt, please bring it to guild Saturday and we will discuss it. I would love to have at least one entry from every member of our guild. Each quilt needs a 4 inch hang sleeve, may be sewn on or just pinned and every quilt needs a sewn on label.

Please contact me with any questions? quiltedkira@mail.com or 801-380-0951

February Meeting

We had a GREAT meeting this month in the newly remolded Gracie Lou's!

We are so excited to see all of our old friends along with a bunch of new ones!

You will see in the side bar, links to all of our members individual blogs and instagram accounts.  Be sure to check out all of our talented quilters!

We had lots of business and fun this month.

This month Pat dazzled us with all of her wonderful quilting helps that she rounded up at the dollar store!  Who knew the dollar store could be such a fantastic quilters supply stop!

Emily gathered  our charity blocks.

We have enough blocks for nearly three quilt tops!

Next up was a splendid Sew N' Tell.

We started out with Emily and her son.

He has been working on this quilt for over a year.  (Yes, Emily became quite emotional)

He made it himself.

Ta Da!  We were all so impressed!

Here is Emily's scrap rainbow quilt.

It is even more beautiful in person.

Tiffany made this beauty for her sisters wedding.

This fun quilt is another charity quilt made by Tiffany.

....and Tiffany made a darling hexy Valentine Pillow.

Debbie worked her way through her stash and UFO's and made some fun baby quilts.

It is so wonderful to finish up projects!

Such sweet colors and design!

Katie is blasting her way through her stash with lots of tops this month.

This quilt was made with a layer cake and a pattern from the Moda Bake Shop.

Kristin made this fun farm quilt for her daughters friend that is leaving to serve a mission for her church.

This is a super awesome sampler that Kristen brought to share with us.

Krystal made a new bag to haul all of her goodies to church in!  It's HUGE and BEAUTIFUL!

Krystal also finished up a mystery quilt from the Peteetneet Quilt show a few years ago.

This is the mini quilt that Konda received from an IG swap.  It is FANTASTIC!

Aubree shared this SWEET top with us! So cute!

Kira made this AWESOME bag to haul all kinds of quilt supplies around.

Kira also made this darling pillow....

....and this SA-WEET table runner....

....and this COOL quilt!

For our main lesson, Marion spoke to us about different layouts for sampler quilts.

There is the traditional layout, with all of the blocks the same size, and uniform sashing.

A few of our guild members were involved in a Red & White Modern Block Swap last year.
Marion showed us how four of the ladies laid out their blocks.

Above is Stacy's top.  The grey is so fun!

This one is Katie's top.  The black adds such a cool dimension!

Konda and Marion chose very similar layouts.  Konda's top is above.
Her flying geese are FANTASTIC!

Marion's is all finished. ...it even had the label ;)
